To citizens of Ukraine and the world: no war in Ukraine!

Libcom.org News - Sun, 05/11/2014 - 16:00

An open letter from Oleg Yasinsky, a Ukrainian socialist, to his fellow Ukrainians arguing against the slide towards civil war. We do not agree with his essentially liberal nationalist politics, however reproduce this text as a local voice against war.

Real Ukrainian people need to wake up, to unite, and to put a stop to the fratricidal nightmare that is being forced upon them Oleg Yasinsky, Ukrainian socialist

Anarchism in the context of civil war

Anarkismo (en) - Sun, 05/11/2014 - 15:49
The events at the House of Trade Unions in Odessa are a tragedy, and it is possible, that among those who died there were also people who played no part in flaring up the violence. People who threw molotov cocktails at the House should have understood the consequences. Even if the fire igniting was not solely due to them, it is not for lack of trying. In case civil war spreads, these deaths are just the beginning. No doubt that on both sides the majority only wants a better life for their close ones and their motherland, and many hate governments and oligarchs to an equal extent. The more sincerely naïve people die, the greater the pressure to support one of the factions in the war, and we must struggle against this pressure. Las Anarquistas, El Movimiento Social Y El Paro Agrario, Étnico Y Popular

Anarkismo - Sun, 05/11/2014 - 00:39

Statement from NYC Local of Black Rose Anarchist Federation regarding Cecily McMillan

Anarkismo (en) - Sun, 05/11/2014 - 00:09
We stand in solidarity with Cecily McMillan and will in the future. Cecily has been punished in order to make an example out of the Occupy movement. At the same time we must look at the bigger picture. By the end of today, another life, activist or not, will have been snuffed out by state violence. These include attacks against active militants involved in the struggle for liberation of oppressed peoples like Mumia Abu-Jamal, Maroon Shoatz and Leonard Peltier, as well as everyday people of color and undocumented migrants struggling to survive against the racist class divisions perpetuated by capitalism. There have been 239 people killed by the NYPD since Amadou Diallo in 1999, and 107 since Sean Bell in 2010; nearly all of them have been people of color. While we see that Cecily is a political prisoner, we recognize that the black and brown men and women who are systematically beaten on the street and thrown into prisons are political by default. Having historically been the most exploited of the exploited class, their well-being, survival and resistance to the widening gap between classes poses a threat to the capitalist status quo that the state seeks to insure.

Priceless land: Resisting Displacement in Colombia ; resisting Fracking in Ireland - Audio from DABF 2014

Workers Solidarity Movement (Ireland) - Fri, 05/09/2014 - 11:43

Nelly Cuadros a community activist from the central department of Tolima, Colombia shared with the Dublin Anarchist Bookfair her stories of resistance, and lessons on uniting against injustice. Women play a central role in these communities and, in spite of discrimination as both peasants and women, are emerging as important social leaders for this pivotal time.

This talk was part of Latin American Solidarity Week. As a last minute addition to the program Leah also spoke about the struggle against Fracking in Ireland
